Before I send a #painting to a show or its new home, I look at it again as if for the first time— can I still strengthen a few details or refine a passage? Everything that leaves my studio gets a final, critical look; I won’t let it go until I’m sure everything is exactly right.
This nocturn received a few finishing touches yesterday.

Altijd vóór ik een schilderij naar een tentoonstelling of nieuwe eigenaar laat gaan, kijk ik er nog één keer naar alsof ik het voor het eerst zie: kan ik nog enkele details versterken of een partij verfijnen? Alles wat mijn atelier verlaat, krijgt een laatste kritische blik— pas als ik zeker weet dat alles klopt, mag het weg.
Deze nocturne kreeg gisteren nog een paar finishing touches.

✨Yes, now it’s really finished! I reworked it quite a bit and the atmosphere feels just right now.

That’s what’s so great about letting time pass over a painting: sometimes it means you should leave it alone, and sometimes you realise you need to make a few subtle adjustments.

This is a story on one of the many series (of #paintings) in my body of work - in this case the returning presence of #hogweed, a very intriguing wild flower, in@my opinion..!

🌿That proliferation of those gigantic, ghostly, poisonous #flowers—spreading at great speed and almost seeming like creatures in their own right—kept fascinating me. Whenever I came across them (on a bike ride, wherever it might be) in some intriguing state or setting, I would photograph them for my archive. What grips me is their strange autonomy, the way they appear to you in scattered clusters. The desolation. As if you are at their mercy when you find yourself among them. At once enigmatic and hauntingly beautiful.
